Yesterday was nuts! So here is my Friday eye candy a day late.  These beauties are from outside our favorite cider mill Obstbaum Orchards. They make great cider and you can watch them make fresh donuts.

Color, Naturally September 27, 2007

I’ve been really negligent on fiber posting.  So here is a project I’m just starting:

I’ve been wanting to try to natural dying for a while.  So now I have all the ingredients: dye (I’m using Earthues logwood extract), mordant (alum),  wool yarn, and most importantly, time.  I’ve done quite a bit with synthetic dyes, but this seems to be a whole differernt kettle of fish.  I’m using The Dyer’s Companion by Dagmar Klos for instruction.  Her directions seem clear.   The method she describes is more scientific than the method I use, but that is good in case I want to repeat (or at least try).  Ok, big breath, here I go, off to find color, naturally.

Pretty Yarn September 12, 2007

I really don’t like washing yarn, so when I am done spinning, I throw the skeins in a basket (looking oh so decorative in my living room) and when the basket is full I do a mammoth washing.  The good thing about this is I get really pretty pictures of the yarns as they are drying.

About two years ago I took a dyeing/spinning class.  So I had lots of little bits of yarn.  I put all the bits with the couple of projects and put them in a box which got buried in my stash.  I was going through my stash the other day doing some cleaning when low and behold, there was the box.   One of the bits of yarn, (the one where I had blended together some pretty colors, in a BFL, I think) was made  into some desert boots.

At the time they were way too big for my daughter and now they are almost too small.  But she had lots of fun sliding around on the wood and laminate floors in our house.

This is my cat Plaid.  He hates to have his photo taken, so what do I do, take his picture, of course.
